Coleen Peggs, BPH

College of Public Health and Health Professions
University of Florida

Welcome! My name is Coleen Peggs. I am a senior at the University of Florida pursuing a Bachelor of Public Health and minors in Pathogenesis and Chemistry. After graduating in May 2025 from UF, I plan to pursue a Master of Public Health with a focus in Epidemiology. I am a UF Public Health Honors scholar and I am currently researching my honors thesis on combating antibiotic resistance in Escherichia coli using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. My research interests include infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance, and vaccine technology. I have experience in research through my undergraduate work at the UF Cancer and Genetics Research Complex.

My passion for Public Health and medical research began at a very young age, as I grew up watching my mother combat Crohn's Disease. Witnessing her hospital and medical experiences drove me to a career in healthcare where I could help combat similar diseases and disabling health conditions.  I aim to conduct medical research in the field to fight both infectious and chronic disease in underrepresented populations.
